The project
Extensive glazing is a striking feature in any contemporary home, but it also brings practical considerations around privacy, light control and comfort.
For this stunning penthouse in Cardiff Bay, we supplied a bespoke motorised roller blind solution designed to work with the property’s open-plan layout and modern interiors.
The objective was clear: create a shading system that looked considered within the architecture while making the space comfortable and easy to live in every day.
Project objectives:
- Balance style with everyday practicality throughout the property
- Maintain privacy where required
- Soften natural light to create comfortable living spaces
- Provide effortless operation through motorisation
- Enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of the penthouse
Selecting the right fabric for each space
Rather than taking a one-fabric-fits-all approach, Capital Collection fabrics were carefully selected to suit the requirements of each room.
In the main living spaces, the chosen fabrics help soften the natural light entering through the extensive glazing, creating a more comfortable environment while complementing the contemporary interior.
In the bedrooms, greater emphasis was placed on privacy and enhanced light control.
By considering how each room is used, the blinds provide the right balance of shading, privacy and design throughout the property.
Explore Capital CollectionConcealed for a clean architectural finish
With such a refined interior, the blind hardware needed to integrate discreetly into the space.
The roller blinds were installed within Blindspace, allowing the systems to be neatly concealed within the ceiling. This created a clean, architectural finish when the blinds are in use and keeps the mechanisms out of sight when they are raised, ensuring the focus remains on the interior and the views across Cardiff Bay.
Motorised shading that works with the smart home. Ease of operation was just as important as appearance.
Powered by our Dream Motors, the blinds provide smooth, reliable motorised operation at the touch of a button. The motors also connect wirelessly to the customer’s Control4 home automation system, allowing the blinds to be controlled as part of the wider smart home setup.
For a property with extensive glazing and multiple blinds, this makes everyday light and privacy management considerably simpler.
Explore Dream MotorisationThe result
The completed installation brings fabric, hardware, motorisation and home automation together in one considered shading solution.
Capital Collection fabrics provide the appropriate level of light control and privacy for each space, while the concealed Blindspace installation maintains the penthouse’s clean architectural lines. Dream Motors make operation effortless and enable the blinds to work seamlessly with the customer’s Control4 system.
The result is a shading solution that complements the contemporary design of the penthouse while delivering the comfort, privacy and convenient control required for everyday living.
For trade professionals, it’s a strong example of what can be achieved when fabric selection, installation detail and motorisation are considered together from the outset.
